Expertise badges are a leveling system on top of their core 24 badges. This will encourage users to continue using their app to increase their badge levels. Some of you may be familiar with this idea as it was one of the suggestions that we had made over a year ago, and it looks like they even liked our design idea as it mimics what we had suggested. Currently, the highest level that you can achieve is Level 10.

Foursquare plans to use the levels in conjunction with the tips at venues so that users will be able to see what tips were left by those with greater authority.

Achieving Expertise

• Get Level 1 for checking in five times to a venue in a category, or three unique venues
• Get Level 2 for five unique venues
• Every level up is five more unique venues

Expertise Page


The Expertise Page is in your Trophy Case and will show your current levels on all 24 core badges. The page also shows the date for your most recent level-up.

The core list of Expertise badges is: Don’t Stop Believin’, JetSetter, Zoetrope, Pizzaillo, Warhol, MOkey Bars, Dog’s Best Friend, Swimmies, Great Outdoors, Ski Bum, Bookworm, 7-10 Split, Fresh Brew, Fixer Upper, Handmade Hero, Fried Checkin, Vinyl, Wino,Triple Play, Herbivore, Bento, and Hot Tamale.

Surprisingly, they didn’t make Gym Rat one of the Expertise badges. You would think out of all of the badges that you would want to encourage return checkins on it would be this one.

It is a really simple process that can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Just to be sure, you need to have a Google+ account already before you can setup a Google+ Page. Also, there is currently no option for multiple admins for a page, although rumors say that should be fixed soon.

How to Set Up Your Page

1. Sign Up

• Visit http://www.google.com/+/business/
• Click the blue “Create your Google+ Page” button

2. Select Your Category

• Local Business or Place: for hotels, restaurants, places, stores, services
• Product or Brand: apparel, cars, electronics, financial services, bloggers
• Company, Institution or Organization: companies, institutions, organizations, non-profits
• Arts, Entertainment, or Sports: movies, TV, music, books, sports, shows
• Other: if your page doesn’t fit on of the above. You should avoid this as you would lose the benefit of category search

3. Add Your Info

• Enter your page name which is what users will use to find you
• Add your website’s URL
• Choose a subcategory

4. Customize Your Profile

• Enter a tagline that describes your page/brand. Use relevant keywords as this will potentially help with search engine rankings
• Add a Photo

5. Tell Everyone

This is where you can select who from your circles that you want to notify about your new page.

That’s all you need to do to get it set up. We have also listed some tips that you might find useful.

The two updates that they released were real-time search results and hashtag support.




Real-Time Search

At the top of Google+ you may have seen a field labeled “search” that would bring results from your friends feeds, and from Google Search results. Real-time search results differ from static search results because new results will continue to display the moment they have been posted, mimicking a Twitter feed. This will allow your search to get the most timely results.

#Hashtags

Google+ now also supports hashtags. If you aren’t familiar with hashtags from Twitter, they are any word or words together preceded by the # symbol, for example, #Foursquare or #nerdjoy. Twitter has used this for some time allowing users to tag a tweet so that it can be grouped with other tweets using the same hashtag. This has been really useful in following trending news or events, similar to what we saw in San Diego during the power outage. Many Twitter users were using the hashtag #sdoutage which would allow anyone to follow updates on that specific topic.

Results from real-time search and hashtags will show mixed together based on how recently they were posted. With these updates to Google+, users will be able to get more use out of the still growing social network. How to Play

Colored condos fall from the sky that stack in a tower. Two colored monsters appear on either side of the tower. The object is to swipe condos to one side or the other to feed them to the monsters in attempts to match four or more of the same color condos in a column. Matching four or more colored condos creates a new condo: bronze, silver, gold or diamond. Ideally, you want to feed condos to the like-colored monster. If you feed too many condos that don’t match that monster’s color, they will get angry and stomp the ground, causing your condos to bounce all over the place. If any of your condos fall off and hit the ground, the game is over.

Issues

The only issue I really had with the game was that it would lock up from time to time. Notably when you have a bunch of combos running together at one time (especially when I got into really high score areas).

The dimensions we picked are for the Droid X, but they should work fairly well for any Android device. We also wanted to stay true to Foursquare and Mari Sheibley’s iconic minimal design with the logos, so we carried that through to the wallpapers as well.
