DIY Star Wars Snowflakes
by Chaunce Dolan on Friday, December 17th, 2010
With winter upon us, we thought it would be fun to share a fun project of ours with you: snowflake designs with a Star Wars twist.
Last year’s wild success with our original designs prompted us to spend some time this year polishing those designs and coming up with some new ones. We had so much fun in fact that there are 19 new designs altogether. Download the Collection.
We also took some of your feedback and made the grey in the templates a little darker hoping they will print out better for everyone.
If you like Star Wars stuff, you might enjoy our Star Wars ringtones as well.

Directions
- Click Diagram link to download the PDF (or download the Collection)
- Print the PDF
- Cut the circle out
- Fold the diagram. We found doing a accordion fold worked better for us.
- Cut the grey area out (you may need an Exacto knife for some of the designs)
- Unfold and hang!
Thanks To

This is amazing, but when I try click some of the pdfs (ex. stormtrooper and vader) it’s just a blank page. The yoda worked though.
Cuz … Stormtroopers suck .
Me too…most of them are blank. I got stormtropper to open but not Yoda. Frustrating cause these look so cool.
If you right-click on the “Diagram” link and select “Save Link As…” from the pop-up menu, you can then save a copy of each of the pdfs to your computer and open them up.
to those of you that think some are blank (I did too) just print them anyway, they seem to be so faint that they don’t show up on the PDF, but once printed, you can make out the design. hope this helps. : )
The reason why ours are lighter was that we noticed that when cutting them out that if the grey was too dark, you would get dark grey edges. Doing a lighter grey allowed for a little more wiggle room with the cutting.
Update your Acrobat
I printed Vader anyway and it does show up (although faded) but still useable
this is soo cool!
I love this! I made a boba fett, but it kinda failed, then I made a stormtrooper, and it worked!!
These are too cool! I tried the Boba Fett one and it looks awesome! I’m going to do up several for my Christmas tree.
Thanks for posting these!
These are great!!
Hawesome! And fun
Making several for my cube at work.
Post pics on our FB wall when you make some!
Cool and fun=)
LOVE These. Thanks to my friend Loretta for sharing your site, we’re making them again this year! May the Force be with you!
Thanks for posting these – I’ve done a couple using printer paper, scissors and a scalpel for the fiddly bits. An X-Acto knife would be far superior for some of the cuts.
The two that I was able to do without a proper blade are the Boba Fett (ignore the cheekbones) and the clone trooper.
yep
Print even if they look blank-I did, and they just appear lighter on the page than YODA, then I just copied darker.
The reason why ours are lighter was that we noticed that when cutting them out that if the grey was too dark, you would get dark grey edges. Doing a lighter grey allowed for a little more wiggle room with the cutting.
Siva will like these…
Awsome! Did not have any problem printing, did not use PDF.
My Grandson Loves anything Starwars.
You are a Master Creator!
Thank you
I’m trying to figure out what kind of paper you were using. Regular printer paper is way too thick when trying to cut out 12 layers of it! My hand was cramping. My Yoda looks more like Simba the baby Disney lion with pointy ears.
Just normal printer paper and sharp scissors is all we used.
Just finished up the R2D2 snowflake and I love it (even though it took about 2 hours
)
I’ve done an Akbar snowflake on printer paper, cut some external line by scissors and a few internal lines by office knife. Mr. Yoda was next figure =)
For those opening a blank document, IF you are trying to open these from an Iphone or Ipad, you might try a PC. All have worked for me, but I have had troubles on my own site with Iphone/Ipad users being unable to see the contents of certain PDFs. But From what I understand, they can open them on a Mac desktop ok.
This are awesome, thanks!
These are fantastic! A perfect project for my 12 yr old son and I! Thanks!
My 11 year old son LOVES Star Wars…guess I know what we will be doing later
He is going to love these! Thanks!
Exacto knife? More like precision laser cutter o_o
the snowflakes are AWESOME! my son is so excited! Thanks for sharing!
These snow flakes are amazing Great job.
Okay, where’s the snowflake for Han Solo?
ITS SO AWESOME MY FRIEND LOVES STAR WARS AND THIS IS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;]
Thank you so much for posting the pdf’s, they are AWESOME!
Do any of you know where I can find Harry Potter snowflake patterns?
I am going to try to cut this on my electronic cutter (Cricut) I think it will work beautifully.
A friend sent me this post. I love these. I make the 8 sided ones out of copy paper of all colors, and I just started using magazine pages I do all seasons, any name, people, animals, and I teach all my kids at school how to do them. I iron them flat and keep them in plastic sleeves in notebooks. I post them on my blog. Fun for everyone!!!!
Awesome!
these were awesome to make. we did yoda, r2, stormtrooper, bobafett, and darth vader.
they took forever, but it was so worth it in the end!
Just found out about these yesterday!!!
I’ll be making these for a lot of “boys” I know
next year for Christmas:)
А есть снежинки с Дарт Сидиусом и Дарт Маулом?
Hi! We love these! If you’re having trouble printing, try printing in grayscale- that’s how mine worked from my mac.
Thanks for the fun idea!
these are awsome snow flakes and they are the coolest I have ever seen
May the force be with you!
My students will love these. Seving them for next year.
That’s awesome. We would love to see pictures of when you and your students do them.
OK, I really wanna use these for my Cub Scout camp as our theme is Star Wars and this craft will cost nearly nothing. My problem is that the grey is so light it won’t copy on even the most sophisticated copier. Is there a way to change the background color? I understand why you did the grey, it’s just not practical for mass copying!
I can understand your frustration with the printing. However, I intentionally made them that light. I did that because when I had it darker, you could see traces of the grey left behind after cutting. So, I did my best to find a middle ground of dark enough to see but light enough to not show if there were left-overs.
On a side note, I haven’t had any troubles printing these and you are the first person that has mentioned this being a problem. Have you messed with your printer settings to see about bumping the contrast up?
I will be redoing the designs later this year for the winter season and will make the grey a bit darker then.
I can print them without problem, I said I can’t COPY them on ANY copier I have tried, even at Kinko’s. The ink is costing a fortune, so I need a cheaper way of mass producing them, so tried to copy them.
I apologize, I misunderstood your comment.
When I created these, I hadn’t considered that someone would want to make many of these at one time via copy machine. But as I stated in my above comment, I hope to darken up the grey a bit when I redesign these in the fall.
In the meantime, one solution might be for you to print one, then trace the grey with a black sharpie, before going to the photocopier.
FUN!!!!
Love these and made them all!!
my windows are now throwing an epic show of shadows in my living room!
Have you tried to make some of the ships of Star Wars! That would be epic!!!!!
to Jeanette, most copy shops can now print from file to their copiers. Take the PDF on a Data stick with you and get them to run them through their copier.
This is awesome. I only wish I could be so creative to think this stuff up. My husband will be so impressed!
these are awesome! thank you!
Just wanted to let those who get updates of new comments here, that there we just posted new designs

Is there any way of still getting the Yoda and R2 ones? Am I just overlooking them?
Nevermind! I see they are on the other site listed. Yay for days of idiocy!
