Exactly.. Thanks for posting that.. When they origionally did the changeover you could not just add in /mobile before the /v . They went back a few days later and fixed the issue. I updated the post in the other discussion but not this one. So thanks again :D

    You're very welcome JR1 :)

I always put a m before the foursquare domain like this. That works too.

    https://m.foursquare.com/v/andy-warhol-museum/4aa1679cf964a5207f4020e3

it converts the address to this after you click it.

    https://foursquare.com/mobile/v/andy-warhol-museum/4aa1679cf964a5207f4020e3

It also works for these venue links too. https://m.foursquare.com/venue/110555
  • HarjifangkiHarjifangki September 2011
Nice! That one's definitely simpler than adding "mobile" before the /v
    Thanks Beerknurd!

Adding your home on foursquare has always been a dicey proposition in terms of privacy. Once you became mayor it showed on your profile with a pin pointing directly to it. If you added the address, it showed up right there on the page, making it easy for anyone to find exactly where you lived. Even if you took the trouble to create the location away from your home, it was still easily found by superusers since they could just track the pattern of checkins based on the blue dots.

Late last week foursquare quietly rolled out a change that makes your home much more private — as long as it’s properly categorized. Once categorized as a home, venues now show a message that says: Since this is a home, the exact location is not shared here. This map is of the approximate area.
  • JR1JR1 September 2011
The map pin disappears and the map is centered on a random spot at least one-quarter mile away from the actual location so it’s no longer easy to tell exactly where the house is. The street address is hidden, with only the city, state and zip visible. Even the superuser loophole has been closed; blue checkin dots no longer show up for superusers."
Venue owners and their friends can still see the address and correct pin location when logged in. Users who find that their home is on foursquare but isn’t categorized properly can use the new “Report a Problem” link to report it to foursquare staff and get it categorized properly.

in my family, we are 4sq users... but there is one think I cannot understand.
different account don't behave the same way:
    - we don't have the same amount of max check a day (1 account can check 30 times a day, another 50 a day and another 39 a day.) (we made the test: with iphone 4 & 4S/android galaxy S.. using account on a phone then another, it's really account depending not linked to the type of phone or apps version)
    - we don't have the same amount of max check in 15mn some have 4, some 6 some 8...

    Brand following FAQ's

Q- how many brands can you follow
    A- 1000

Q- After you get a badge can you unfollow the brand and keep the badge
A- Currently Yes, you only need to follow to get the badge then you can unfollow

Q- I have tons of retired badges grayed out in my trophy case, does that mean they will become active again?
A- If a brand has ever had a badge that you did not get and you follow that brand the badge will show up grayed out in your trophy case forever. If you dont want to see them just unfollow the brand

    Thx @JR1
  • vanzvanz November 2011
@JR1 if my 'home' not categorized home. Can?
And the mayor not my friend, can i make it to 'my home'? And get back mayorship?
  • JR1JR1 November 2011
If you created the venue for your home then you can edit the category and make it a home venue. If you did not create the venue just then follow these instructions from 4sqr:

"If you did not create the venue for your home, go to the venue page on the website and click “Report a Problem” for a list of flagging options. Select “Venue is my home” and choose the best description:"
“I want this venue private to me and my friends”
“This is my home but it is categorized as something else”
“I want to remove my home from foursquare”

As for getting back the mayorship as soon as you checkin more then who ever has the mayorship then you will get it back. Getting the category of the venue changed will not help you with that.
  • vanzvanz November 2011
@JR1 ok. I had report it just now. I try to get my mayor back then. Thankz a lot.

If someone was to use GPS spoofing with the official 4 sq app, do you think 4sq would flag their account?
  • JR1JR1 November 2011
There is a chance that they could. I have heard of people getting their accts flagged for using gps spoofs. Some of the programs leave a trail behind that 4sqr looks for and it will get them caught. It is a chance that one takes when using programs like that. They used to not care at all what people did but in the last several months they have cracked down alot. If it were me I would not chance it. The best way to "jump" is 4sqr mobile. 4sqr has stated they will not flag any accts that use 4sqr mobile. Def the safe way to go.

    Q. How do I report abuse or harassment?
    A. If you encounter inappropriate tips, shouts, or venues, or if you are being harassed by another user, send us an email at privacy@foursquare.com. Only emails on this subject will be replied to.

Here's what we'll require when you file a report:

-Your foursquare username or user ID
-A detailed description of your issue
    -A link to the foursquare tip(s), venue(s), or user(s) you’re reporting.

Our support team will get back to you within 3 business days. In the meantime, do not engage with or communicate with the user via foursquare tips, venues, or shouts. We also recommend you remove this user as your foursquare friend by going to foursquare.com/manage/friends, mousing over his/her name, and clicking the “x” so he/she won’t be able to see where you’re checking in.

Q: How to checkin "Off The Grid"
A: When you checkin using 4sqr mobile there is a pull down tab that is set to say "show this checkin to friends" just change it to "hide my location" and that will check you in "off teh grid.
    -Or-
When using any of the 4sqr smartphone apps just set it to not show the checkin to your friends. I know on the blackberry it's a check box on the checkin screen. Not sure where it is on the other apps. But it is the same concept as when using 4sqr mobile.
  • BrandonBrandon November 2011
In Settings, I unchecked "Include me in the public list of people who are currently checked in at a venue". You can still check in on the grid and share it with your friends, but other users won't see you there. I've worked too hard for 264 badges to let someone like that take it from me. Another good thing is to resist the urge to fight back with words when someone says something bad to or about you on 4sq. Best to run to mommy and tell instead of getting in a spat. Also, don't take candy from strangers, and don't make them your "friends" on 4sq. :)

In honor of my acct getting flagged for using 4sqr mobile I asked 4sqr this ?

Q: I just got an email from 4sqr about a checkin that stated " Our system detected that some of your check-ins do not follow our guidelines". Just to clerify from what I have read on your information page stated that "- We currently do not flag accounts or check-ins that use the mobile web, as those check-ins are not included in our venue stats, venue specials, and social game elements. (This means that they do not negatively impact other members of the foursquare community.)". So why did I recieve an email stating that my acct could be flagged? Would like some clerification on that.

A: To answer your question, no user is exempt from our House Rules. It doesn't matter how you check-in, if you're going to be using our app, then we'd like you to follow our guidelines.
  • DanDan November 2011
JR, my understanding from their answer is that NO ONE is exempt from getting there accounts flagged. Even those that use the 4sq mobile site for check-ins/badges. Correct?

Will 4sq lift the ban on your account?
  • JR1JR1 November 2011
From the sounds of it they are saying that anyone is fair game to get flagged even though they have it stated otherwise. And as for anything happening with my acct I still have no clue what they are doing. That part they just will not answer.
  • BeatMaticsBeatMatics November 2011
My account got flagged back in Feb of this year because of an app I had downloaded and used. It checked me in to a lot of places very rapidly. I tried to explain to Foursquare but they weren't hearing it. They just told me to keep checking in with the foursquare app and that eventually their system would unflag my account. I think it took like 2-3 weeks to start getting points again.
  • JR1JR1 November 2011
Thanks for the info. They still have not even told me anything at all.
  • I would just reply to them that since their house rules state:

"- We currently do not flag accounts or check-ins that use the mobile web, as those check-ins are not included in our venue stats, venue specials, and social game elements. (This means that they do not negatively impact other members of the foursquare community.)".

why did my account get flagged?
  • JR1JR1 November 2011
Oh I did. They had nothing to say back. They actually have not responded since I said that. 4sqr is known for having the world worst customer service. This is the 2nd time I have had an issue with their customer service. I must say that at list this time I giot what I expected to get.
  • I know a journalist that might be able to get an answer. I'll have him contact their PR firm and ask for a direct answer.
  • Sorry, the site threw an errror, but save the message.

I only can level-up 17 badges within 24 hours using mobile web. After unlocked, I deleted my check-in history for venue #1 up to #4 & keep my check-in for venue #5 where the badge unlocked. When I tried to unlock another badge to level-up, I got points for 9 new venues but the badge not unlocked. Delete my history check-in for these 9 new venues & try another check-in to level-up another badge, but same thing happened. So now in my check-in history there are 17 venues which unlocked 17 level-up badges (far below the check-in limit at 30 venues within 24 hours). Does it mean 4sq limited the badge unlocked for 17 badges within 24 hours?
  • BangGowesBangGowes November 2011
UPDATE: I still can unlock the level-up for the 18th and 19th badge by check-in to 10 new venues...pfuihhh...I have to calm down & try to check-in again tomorrow...:)
