May be we can create a venues in your town and later put it in north pole and make an check in ?
  • adamb00adamb00 April 2012
There is no way to jump this with the mobile site?
  • JR1JR1 April 2012
To get this badge you have to contact 4sqr and coordinate your trip to the North Pole with them. The badge is actually rewarded and not earned by a checkin. So there is no way to "fool" the system on this one. This is the one badge that requires 100% that you actually go there.

    Currently there are 3 unlocks that I know of for this badge (April 10th 2010) ( June 3rd 2011) (April 16th 2012)

@JR1 according to the 4sq blog, Christopher did check in to receive the badge:

"Christophe Vandaele will be using his Iridium 9555 satellite phone connected, by cable, to an HP PDA device. The device contains a piece of software called Contact 5 which will allow Vandaele to connect to Foursquare at the bare minimum level, sufficient enough to “check in.”

There must be a certain Lat & Lon obtained by 4sq to check into for the unlock. True North Pole is 90 degrees Lat and 0.000 Long. Which puts it smack dab in the middle of the Artic Ocean. Earning that badge was probably expensive!

Thanks for the info. I somehow missed that post on the 4sqr blog and was going off the info from the last unlock of the badge back in 2010.
  • sasskat49 April 2012
I no longer think that I an obsessed with 4sq after reading this post. lol WOW...
  • _faezah_faezah April 2012
there are three by far that i know. 2010, 2011 and 2012. Special badge for David (Apr 15, 2010) , Steve (Jun 3, 2011) and Christhopher (Apr 16, 2012).

Somebody is friends of this 2 user ? To see if they got it by venue
  • adamb00adamb00 April 2012
Thats rather irritating! I did always wonder with the 2010 badge because surely there is no signal at the north pole on your mobile phone lol!
  • JerkrattJerkratt April 2012
If you read one of the articles he has a phone that's pretty much basic check in ability its a satellite phone
  • neiceek April 2012
would be an awesome badge to actually get
  • adamb00adamb00 April 2012
Oh yeah, that guy who only decided to register to foursquare, for one single day, just to get the foursquare north pole badge, along with his newbie badge, for that one single time ever and not ever use foursquare again, by using his basic satellite phone! If i had never heard of foursquare thats what i would use my satellite phone for too!
  • adamb00adamb00 April 2012
I mean the 2010 guy only
  • BrandonBrandon April 2012
I know right? What's up with that guy?
  • BrandonBrandon April 2012
What I really love is that he left a tip while connected to gogo inflight, but didn't unlock the mile high badge. How sad is that? :)
Although this badge is considered an "active badge", I personally don't consider it one.
  • LikesTravelLikesTravel April 2012
Parker Liautaud ( ) did this venues to get the badge . I just try ........ with mobile check in, and no badge . So my theory to put the venue to ....... north pole is wrong .
  • BrenBren April 2012
that sux I got 16 points for checking in at the north pole but no badge... i know you have to coordinate to actually be there but it was worth the try
  • choad17choad17 April 2012
You think using an location spoofer from a phone will work?
  • nuevicnuevic April 2012
As I recalled, there was someone mentioned on another thread about a way or an app to fake our location and makes it appear as the phone's own GPS location, though it can only be done using an Android phone at the moment, still unknown for iOS users.
  • nuevicnuevic April 2012
I only could find this article, but i couldn't try it because my iPhone isn't jailbroken.
  • BrenBren April 2012
yes @nuevic that works only on a jail broken IPhone. I used to have this app but it stopped working and now you must pay.
there's also LocationHolic which you must also pay for now and finally there's LocationSpoofer which works fine. all this said they will not work for this badge EVER.
this badge can only be awarded and not unlocked.
  • nuevicnuevic April 2012
Bugger! Thanks for your info! We probably should have another forum for 'unattainable badge' for this matter. LOL
  • choad17choad17 April 2012
Used a location spoofer on my iphone and checked in. Just got points. This is definitely a badge 4sq needs to give you.
  • aBBeaBBe April 2012
you know what, why this badge can't unlock? Because this badge is Limited Edition and Special, and we can unlock this badge :-/
  • BrenBren April 2012
@aBBe I agree you can unlock it but only by going through 4sq. you need a special kinda phone to get a signal then you will be awarded this badge.
  • aBBeaBBe April 2012
@Bren yes, we all do not be too much to expect to open this badge. Therefore, need special permission to open this badge.
  • choad17choad17 April 2012
I'm gonna get 4sq to give this badge to me!
