How to unlock: 1. Coordinate directly with foursquare (they have to be contacted with your trip information ahead of time) 2. Physically travel to the north pole 3. Checkin at The North Pole 4. Checkin must be made using a Satellite Phone with location-based GPS satellite service 5. THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU CAN JUMP AND GET THIS BADGE 6. You must provide both documentation and phots to 4sqr to prove you were there before they will award this badge to you
To get this badge you have to contact 4sqr and coordinate your trip to the North Pole with them. The badge is actually rewarded and not earned by a checkin. So there is no way to "fool" the system on this one. This is the one badge that requires 100% that you actually go there.
Currently there are 3 unlocks that I know of for this badge
@JR1 according to the 4sq blog, Christopher did check in to receive the badge:
"Christophe Vandaele will be using his Iridium 9555 satellite phone connected, by cable, to an HP PDA device. The device contains a piece of software called Contact 5 which will allow Vandaele to connect to Foursquare at the bare minimum level, sufficient enough to “check in.”
There must be a certain Lat & Lon obtained by 4sq to check into for the unlock. True North Pole is 90 degrees Lat and 0.000 Long. Which puts it smack dab in the middle of the Artic Ocean. Earning that badge was probably expensive!
Oh yeah, that guy who only decided to register to foursquare, for one single day, just to get the foursquare north pole badge, along with his newbie badge, for that one single time ever and not ever use foursquare again, by using his basic satellite phone! If i had never heard of foursquare thats what i would use my satellite phone for too!
As I recalled, there was someone mentioned on another thread about a way or an app to fake our location and makes it appear as the phone's own GPS location, though it can only be done using an Android phone at the moment, still unknown for iOS users.
yes @nuevic that works only on a jail broken IPhone. I used to have this app but it stopped working and now you must pay. there's also LocationHolic which you must also pay for now and finally there's LocationSpoofer which works fine. all this said they will not work for this badge EVER. this badge can only be awarded and not unlocked.
