iPhone 4 has the ability to directly upload video to YouTube. You may have also noticed that even though the iPhone 4 captures the video at 720p, the video that gets uploaded is only at 360p.
We scoured iPhone and YouTube settings thinking it might be something there, still no solution. After searching on Google to see if others were running into the same problem, we found that Apple either made a mistake or intentionally left that option out of the upload process. Whatever the case may be, it is frustrating.
After hunting around for YouTube HD upload solutions, we concluded that you have to connect your iPhone to your computer, download the HD video and then upload it to YouTube. We figured that there had to be a more efficient way though.
Indeed, there is. The solution is a simple, yet powerful free app called Pixelpipe. It may not upload video as quickly as it does with the native iPhone 4 functionality, but a 20 second HD video took about 3 minutes to upload to YouTube. Pixelpipe offers a lot of other features like the ability to upload to Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.
How to upload your iPhone 4 HD video directly to YouTube
- Download Pixelpipe (free)
- Create an account
- Add a YouTube “destination” (in settings) and add your login credentials
- Select a video and upload
