Motorola Droid X Camcorder Does Not Autofocus

One of the many features the Droid X touts is the ability to capture HD video with its camcorder. After recording a few videos, I discovered something. The camcorder feature does not have the ability to autofocus.

As you can see from the video, the phone has trouble with items that are up close.

For comparison, here is video from the iPhone4, showing its ability to tap-focus on a nearby object.

I would imagine that this is a software issue since the standard camera  on the Droid X has the ability to autofocus. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this will be addressed in the new OS update (2.2: “Froyo”).

  1. That’s kind of pathetic

  2. I’ve been annoyed by this as well. The primary reason I chose the X over the EVO was the HD camera and 4.3″ screen combo. The lack of focus makes this feature worthless. Completely worthless. Motorola seems oblivious, however, so I don’t expect it to be fixed. Just waiting for my VZ upgrade date now to replace it with something better.
