Osmos is an amoeba-type game where your objective is to absorb smaller amoebas or “motes” as they are called. The games visuals are incredibly crisp and game play is simple, yet fun. The soundtrack makes the game play generally soothing too as it has several ambient electronic tracks.

Moving your mote is fairly simple, tapping around your mote will send it in that direction by expelling a small amount of its own matter. To move right, tap to the right of your mote and it will expel matter from the left. Want to move faster, tap several times. The more times you tap, the more matter is expelled, and the smaller your mote becomes. To absorb other motes, you just need to run your mote into them.

Some motes have different abilities as well. One repels away from you as you move towards it. Another is more sentient as it will look to absorb other motes. A third type acts as a gravitational center and makes other motes travel around it in orbits.

Osmos also has achievements that can be unlocked as well as leader board stats in Feint.

The Good

  • Vibrant, crisp graphics
  • Easy game play
  • Great ambient soundtrack
  • Zoom in/out feature makes maneuvering easy
  • Time control allows for faster or slower game play

The Bad

  • The later levels are a bit too challenging to the point of frustration
  • Motes that have become recently smaller than yours still look like are larger due to the red center

The Ugly

  • The sentient motes are too aggressive in absorbing motes, taking away from the ambient feel that the rest of the game has
